Inclusion in the classroom

Inclusion in the classroom provides an admission to those students who need a maximum attention and care in comparison with the non-disabled students. Educational community or the schools are free to admit needy students with learning disability in different classes by classifying them under specific categories. It is the mild to severe/special need of attention which requires the selected students to be admitted in specific classrooms under the inclusive education system.

The inclusion in the classroom provides an opportunity to the students with disability and ‘need of special education’ to study, play and enjoy with the non-disabled students. It was not possible earlier with the integration or mainstream education, meant for the students with physical or mental disabilities. With the introduction of inclusive education, now even the needy students can get admission in a highly reputed school. Inclusion system paves the way for the students with disability to take admission in a general class which no any school can deny. Inclusion in the classroom ensures that almost all the students are enrolled in the school or any educational community learning there interesting subjects under the guidance of professional teachers, capable of providing excellent education. Enrolled under the inclusion in the classroom, the students, with disability are provided all the educational benefits, enjoyed by the non-disabled students.

Importance of inclusive education or inclusion in the classroom

It is a great care of each handicapped student, enrolled in the classroom, which doesn’t let them feel inferior in any sense. The students with physical disabilities learn all the important subjects and are assisted to improve their spontaneous efficiency as well. There are many indispensable training programs needed to be implemented for the children with disabilities. A survey has revealed that inclusion in the classroom of disabled students provides them best education in the presence of fully fledged devoted dextrous teachers.

Inclusion is an anti-discriminatory educational system available in approximately all the educational institutes in the world providing a general education that was meant earlier only for the non-disabled normal students. Admission in the classroom through the inclusion in the classroom encourages the child-students to exude their immense interest in the subjects and learn which in turn helps them excel in many crucial subjects successfully. But many educational institutes in the world ignore educational programs. Failing to meet the requirement of inclusive education such schools deprive the students of an opportunity to compete with the competent students.

Well aware of such complications, the academecians have introduced an effective educational system, known as inclusion all over the world. Inclusion admits the disabled students such as hearing impaired in the classroom without making any difference between the handicapped and non-disabled students. Till a few years ago a mainstreamed education, imparted to the handicapped ones in their classes, was much inferior in comparison with the general education. Though an overall approach of the teachers in the classes of the handicapped students was to teach them all the subjects, the quality of education and training thereof was not up to the mark. Keeping in view the need of upgraded education, now the inclusive education in the class has been introduced which paves the way for the handicapped children to bloom their natural skill to its full. Inclusion in the classroom provides the best education to the students with learning or physical disabilities which, till a few years ago, was a farfetched idea.

Inclusion (an anti-discriminatory educational system), admits the students with physical or mental disabilities in the classroom offering them a feeling of being competent in competing with non-disabled students. As we all know that typically impaired students are needed to be handled with a great care, the teachers interacting with them also are needed to be trained professionals, expert in fathoming common problems of handicapped students and sorting them out on the spot with affectionate guidance.

A survey has revealed that fully fledged devotion of the dextrous teachers in the classroom imparting general education to the children with disabilities yields a desired result. Inclusion of students with learning disability in the classroom encourages them to excel in all the general subjects. Till a few years ago the children/students with physical impairment or disabilities were imparted education only in a special classroom. Such type of educational system, also known as the mainstreamed education, proved to be unproductive for the students with disabilities, while the inclusive education accomplished the purpose with remarkable success.

Though, overall approach of the teachers in a classroom of students with disability, was to teach them all the important subjects, the pattern of education was not up to the required mark. Keeping in view such lacunae in the educational system, the inclusive education was introduced and implemented successfully. Inclusive education allows the handicapped students to study with the non-disable students without feeling segregated. With the inclusion in the classroom of non-disabled students, the students with disability do much better without feeling any inferiority complex.

Admitting the students with disabilities in a general class, under inclusive education system, has now become a law which every school has to follow without discrimination. In other words, inclusion in the classroom by enrolling the students with disabilities has become mandatory which every school has to implement without any partiality. Inclusive education system has now opened the gate of all the schools for the children with physical disabilities to enroll themselves through inclusion in the classroom. It really is a great privilege for the physically impaired students to enjoy with the non-disabled students in the same classroom.

Why is the inclusive education necessary?

Inclusion has made obsolete the earlier educational system which secluded the students with disabilities from the healthy and non-disabled students. General education imparted upon the students with disability instills a great confidence in the mind of respective students who earlier used to get victimized of inferiority complex. According to a survey, conducted recently, the earlier educational system separated the students with disabilities from the rest of smart, healthy and non-disabled students which caused an inferiority complex in the mind of former ones.

Believe it or not, it is the love, affection, appreciation and admiration which encourages the individuals to work with more devotion to taste the success, while strictness, reproaches, strictures and humiliation cause its negative impact on the personality of all individuals. Maximum numbers of the children with physical disabilities find themselves hapless and poor deserving sympathy only. Such type of feeling enhances their psychological trauma when they find themselves separated from those children whose parents do feel proud of their children’s exceptional dexterity including physical stamina and powerful brain. Dwelling on such fact the top bureaucrats, intellectuals, journalists, and the academician advocated the idea of providing admission to the students (with disability) through inclusion in the classroom without making any partiality.

The handicapped students in the classroom are not treated as some pathetic ones and allowed to learn all the subjects and take part in games and other playful activities. Such type of opportunity provided to both the handicapped and non-disabled students in the classroom by inclusion establishes a healthy relationship among them all. Inclusion rejects the idea of special school or classroom for students with disabilities. Inclusive schools have now removed two types of educations, that is, “general education” and “special education”. Now there is only one system, that is, inclusion. Almost all the handicapped students are entitled to take admission in the class under inclusive education system without being treated as the pathetic ones.

Conspicuousness of inclusion in the classroom

Inclusive education being an extraordinary educational system provides education through school community to every student without discriminating them as handicapped or non-disabled ones. Maximum number of the handicapped or poor students used to get deprived of an education, provided to those without disability. Deprived of a standardized education the students with disability used to get victimized of mental chaos and lived their live as a poor or dependent on others. Such condition was very critical and needed to be addressed on a priority basis. Dwelling on contrary effects of a separate education meant for the handicapped students, the academician mooted out an idea of school community based on inclusion which offered only one type of education, inclusive education,  in the classroom without separating the physically disabled ones from the non-disabled students.

Remarkable facts about the inclusion

With the worldwide popularity the inclusive education offers admission to the students with learning disabilities without discrimination. USA and Denmark are the two countries that had implemented the law of inclusion providing admission to the students with physical and learning disabilities without discrimination.

  • Earlier the students needed to follow some rigid rules and regulations for the admission, but with the introduction of inclusion now the school itself is needed to change its rules and regulation or adapt itself to admit the students in the classroom under inclusion system.
  • Presence of the students with diverse caliber plays is constructive role in the classroom.
Despite being allowed to study some specific subjects with non-disabled students in the classroom, the students with disabilities earlier were needed to attend some special physical courses which affected their psychology making them feel poor and inefficient. But anti-discriminatory inclusive education removed such loopholes. The inclusion in the classroom has been appreciated all over the world.
  • Inclusion has earned an approbation of all the countries in the world and has now been enshrined in a book of law. It was in 1989 when UN convention had adopted an unanimous resolution making the education a right of children. UNESCO also stressed upon the need of education in 1994 making compulsory the inclusive education in the classroom for every child.
  • In 2006, a resolution on inclusion was passed at the UN Convention calling upon all the countries of the world to expedite the inclusive education providing anti-discriminatory education in the classroom.
