Nightlife is all about fun, glamour, entertainment, music and dance. People enjoy the evenings drinking, dancing and having fun in nightclubs. It is usually the youngsters and teenagers who are active visitors of nightclubs and the ones who take pleasure in the nightlife. Youngsters love to visit nightclubs where they can dance to the tracks of the musical numbers played by disco jockeys.

Nightclubs are the most sought after destinations for partying. There are some exotic nightclubs around the world, such as the Fabric in London, the Space and Pacha in Ibiza, Womb in Tokyo and Stereo in Montreal. Ibiza has some of the world’s best nightclubs.

Nightclub is basically a venue for drinking, dancing and entertainment. People who frequently visit nightclubs are called as clubbers. With dance floors, DJ booths and occasional live performances nightclubs can be easily distinguished from bars, pubs and taverns which are primarily alcohol joints, with some music being played in the backdrop.

Nightclubs are stylish and trendy places attracting a lot of people. The maddening dance and rocking music at the clubs are occasionally accompanied by stand-up comedians, “go-go” dancer’s strippers, or live bands. The most well-known nightclubs are identified with the kind of music played there that could include anything from house music, heavy metal, and techno to the genres of salsa, hip-hop, and garage funk.

The lighting effect is one of the most important features of nightclubs. It adds glamour and sets the mood for some really cool dance performances on the floor. With flashes of colored lights, light beams that move seemingly in a random fashion, effects of laser and strobe varieties of light, mirror-covered balls that throw lights and patterns on the walls, tools exhaling foam and smoke into the ambience are various unconventional  ways creating a splendid experience for the clubbers.

Every countries, cities, region’s or localities nightclub hours differs depending upon the government rules and regulations. There are some places where there are stringent rules regarding the closing time and alcohol limit of nightclubs. However, there are other places where there are no such rules for the functioning of the nightclubs. As far as the history of nightclubs is concerned, they date back to the 1900’s when nightclubs made a serious departure or functioned illegally because of the US Prohibition, which was finally lifted in 1933. Thereafter the trend or craze returned with separate nightlife destinations for the black and white people.

The 1950’s ushered in the era of juke box and live music performances. However today’s archetype of a discotheque must have been inherited from Paris’ Whisky Gogo club, which brought with itself for the first time, a special floor for dance enthusiasts, and two turntables, for an incessant flow of music on the floor.

The 1970’s saw some fascinating lighting systems that would go pit- a- pat with the beat of music. Several schools introduced nightclub dancing lessons such as hustle, cha cha, and touch dancing. The disco also brought about a fashion revival with flowing Halston outfits for the girls and shimmering polyester Qiana apparels for the boys. This era also ushered in some negative aspects of the nightlife. Drugs became a part of recreation at the nightclubs, homosexuals emerged from their cocoons and the dance floors became a place for seduction and consumption of alcohol.

With the beginning of 1980’s, this scenario changed under the new Romantic upheaval in New York, London, and continental Europe. There was a rising popularity of Boy George, Culture Club, and reggae bands, young men clubbers sometimes put on make-up while women night clubbers began to wear men’s outfits.

From the 1990’s till the present time, the nightclubs are more inclined towards having house music, hip-hop, techno, trance or electro. A very new concept has been introduced that the use of both video and audio mixing by DJs, in which huge screens are placed near the dance floor.
