Iv had it done for 6 days now, and the swelling has gone down, but when i stick my tongue out i have like a swelled bump around the ball at the top and i cant change to a smaller bar because this bump makes the other bar to small, i also have a bit of white puss sorrounding the bottom hole, is that normal, my tongue feels fine otherwise, no pain
yes it is sometime it depends on your tounge because everyone’s tounuge’s acts different. My toung i have had it done for 2 days no swealing nothing!
i just got my tongue pierced on monday, and its sunday now. i have the same problem, its like a weird feeling down the right side of my tongue, and it kinda makes the right side of my face in some areas sore every once in a while to. i think its because its off to the right side a bit, its not perfectly centred. seconds after i got it done i asked the piercer if it was normal to feel pain down the right side, and he said yeah its normal.. but i still feel it on day 6… is that weird?
Hey guys, had my tongue pierced 13th of May 2010, its been 2 days, and frankly, after reading everything everyone says on this, i have barely gone through any pain “except a bit in the morning”, even though i had to get it pierced twice in one night since the first one came out wrong. i’ve been on anti-inflammatory medicine “IBUPROFEN 400″ works like a charm for the swelling, and Advil or Panadol Acti-Fast. the ibuprofen takes effect within 15-20min and your tongue is almost back to normal, wears off after about 2-3 hours, but reading the instructions, its safe to take up to 6 pills a day, so you have a good 12hours of no lisps. the day after i got it pierced i had steak, it was weird at first and you learn how to maneuver your tongue when you’re chewing, i have to admit i did bite down on the stud a couple of times but the pain is instant and goes just as fast. i haven’t quit smoking, but have a bottle of Listerine OR Regular mouthwash around after every smoke, and every meal.
Now for the yellow crust thing ontop of your tongue, and the white gewy thing under your tongue, its a result of not being able to swallow properly, nothing to do with healing, it was a bit painfull, but this morning i noticed it was getting a tiny bit yellow around the stud, get a NEW toothbush, slap on some tooth paste, and just brush your tongue, mostly around the stud and behind, brush the stud itself if you can handle the pain. ive 3 proper meals today, and the there is no pain at all aslong as you eat nice and slow so you know how to handle your tongue again.
So OverAll : Pierced 48hours ago, ZERO bleeding after the first 20min of getting it pierced “the 2nd time”, smoked that same night, ate that same night, Rock Salt in Ice water works nicely with the swelling if you dont have any ibuprofen around.Mouth wash or listerine 4-5 times a day, 1 time after every meal. there is BARELY any pain with the ibuprofen and Advil or Panadol Acti-Fast. oh and BY THE WAY, the stud i have in is pretty tight, not loose at all, i was freaking out at first, but its all cool, have a new set of studs just waiting to replace this one, i will wait the full length of 2 weeks before changing it. ive gone to the clinic to have my tongue checked, and according to the doctor, my tongue is 100% OK, no signs of any infection what so ever. the hype everyone builds up is just stupid, apart from the morning pain since you havent had any anti-inflammatory medicine, the only thing that burns is the listerine, since you want to keep it in your mouth of a while to let the tongue soak up nicely in it, your inner cheeks and sometimes gums will burn along with your tongue. but thats as bad as it gets.
Whoever wants to get their tongue pierced, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE AFTER PAIN. have a stock of Anti-inflammatory pills and mild pain killers and Listerine and or any other type of mouthwash. watch people get their tongues pierced on youtube and you’ll see that there is NO PAIN, and the aftercare is just has easy and painless.
i’ll get back to you guys in 10 days when i change out my stud, and if i get any of the yellow / white gewy thing
you should not have used listerine.you shoud have used a non alcoholic mouthwash. OR you should have diluted the listerine. 50% water 50% listerine
right, im getting my tongiue pierced in about 2 weeks.
im not scared at all im just abit worried about this job i want.

I got my tongue pierced yesterday. The piercing process did not hurt at all, except for the clamps that were used to hold my tongue in place.
I was expecting my tongue to be extremely swollen last night and first thing this morning, but so far no swelling. It doesn’t hurt, just some discomfort and tenderness throughout the day. Taking ibuprofen to help reduce any potential swelling and discomfort. Also rinsing with 1/2 listerine and 1/2 water mix several times throughout the day to keep it clean.
I can hardly wait until a couple weeks pass so I can go back and get changed into a shorter bar. The current one is extra long and makes any kind of eating difficult. But I am doing good with lots of ice water.
omg so i got my second tongue piercing yesterday june42010 i mean it doesnt hurt as bad as the first one i mean the mild tongue tingling and my bottom barbell being a little tight im good!!! i mean the swelling went down in about 20 mintues and i was able to eat food lol!!!! i mean in the morning there is swelling of course!! but that was this morning i guess ill re update in about 2weeks when i go back and check it out!!! wait im going to the dr. on monday i will have her check it out and make sure it is fine….if it is then ill update in 2weeks if it isnt then i will update about my badd experience!!!! luv ya ciao gotta go get dressed
So i got mine pierced today && it didn’t hurt one bit either. Usually i have alot of trouble with pain and piercings. I’ve got my tragus, rook, && nose done and all of those hurt wayyyy more than my tongue. I’m just scared about sleeping with it && eating with it. I’ve been eating ice ever since i got it done so hopefully it’ll keep the swelling down.
i got mii tongue pierced yesterday by hand but at a shop anyways didnt hurt at all i just cant chew mii food but im in need of a smoke… oh n about using listerine do not gurgle more than 3 times a day cuz im a nurse n by gargling too much mouth wash you not only kill bad bacteria but also the good ones that ward off infection but everyones diff lucky you whoever can smoke im too afraid of infection even tho i know its hardly gonna hapen to meh but just sayin as a nurse ive seen way too much grossness wit infection bleeech
i had my tounge pierced yesturday and so far i have had minimal pain i havent took and painkillers because there has been no need . I only had a tiny bit of pain when he actuly pierced it lol i was really scared about having it done tho as i have only ever had my ears pierced befor lol ( i have a few tattoos but there were nothing ) the one thing i am scared about is infection i have been reading your comment and now extra worried as i have been using mouth wash abotu 20 times a day because i was told after every drink and every time i smoke so i might call the docors in the morn get an appointment just to check lol ( im a hypacondriact – gett worried about the stuipidest of things ) also everyone on here seems able to eat i cant all i can eat is ice cream , tip tops , and suck soup through a straw – is this normal because i tryed to eat bit it felt discusting in my mouth lol and i just kept biting the bar ? some one let me know please lol x

Don’t eat dairy products (like icecream) in the first few months because dairy has yeast, and that can cause a yeast infection.
My sister had her tongue pierced, and she rinsed her mouth out with salt water after every meal, and the mouthwash twice a day (morning and night). Hope this helps.
well, as far as i know the information that u guys was saying nd that i was looking up sounds similar. im gttn my tongue pierced this friday. nd im hella nervous. i hear all these rumors talking about my teeth messing up or sumthn. i hav nice teeth nd i don’t want them 2 fall out. lol. whats the deal with that?
I’m on day 6 and this is the first good day I’ve had since the piercing. Per most people, it is painless to be pierced in the tongue. Unfortunatly, I was one of the people who was in pain. I was pretty intense. The following 5 days were hard. I’ve taken way more than the recommended dose of Advil every day except today. I love my piercing…even though it was painful and even though its kind of crooked. I have a moderate to high pain tolerance, so I was just one of those who had a difficult time. Sounds like most people have less of a bad time. Just be prepared, still do it, but dont be mistaken into thinking its a cakewalk even if u have a high pain tolerance. I love mine and no one at work even knows I have it. You cant see it when I talk. Good luck!
the pain was intense for me. but it’s morning two and i can eat blueberries now. its hurts a bit to… but not to badly. and im so glad i have something solid.
I’m a little worried about the dairy thing.. all yesterday i was eating cream soups and i had an icedcapp to help the swelling and help wake me up.
Ive had my tongue pierced for 11 days now. I love it. But I have some bad days with it. It goes from normal and manageable to intolerable. Im goingt o chicago soon for the taste of Chicago festival and i reallllyyyy hope i can eat lots of great food. I’ll probably go to a tattoo shop there and have them switch it to a shorter on just to be safe. Im too chicken to change it myself. But i HAIGHLY reccommend it to everyone. I habe my ears tongue and niples pierced and all of them were worth it. (especially the nipples) but yeah get it done its a lot of work for a little while but its DEFINATELY WORHT IT
if you guys are worries about it messing up your teeth, you can have the barbells changed into silver silicon balls so its not so hard on your teeth and cant shatter them!

i just got mine pierced about 3 days ago . I don’t really have any pain besides in the morning or sometimes if I am eating something . But other than that it’s really not that bad . My tongue is still really swolen though so i am just waiting for that to go down so i can get it switched I am excited bout having it (:
I just had my tongue pierced thurs july 15th an it didn’t swell up at all. I ate french fries an a hamburger two hours after gettin mine done. Take some Ibphrophen before you go an you should be fine. I have had no pain, the length of the barbell is aggervating because it’s too big an causes me to slur my words, I’m ready to go ahead an change it out.
i just pierced my tongue(myself)yesterday-26th July 2010, and apart from the soreness in the morning which went away immediately after i drank a very very cold glass of water, it is very fine.the swelling is so mild that i can’t even tell if it is actually there and it doesn’t hurt at all. in fact i ate a whole meal last night and it wasn’t that bad either: i hope i don’t get an infection, but why would i right?
Hello All, I got my piercing yesterday. I felt it, but I cant say that it really HURT. There was barely any swelling until this morning. I couldn’t eat ice all day at work, so everything was a little awkward. I just tried not to talk too much. AS SOON as i got home I took some ibuprofen and proceeded to allow the ice to melt on my tongue and the swelling has drastically subsided. My throat kind of hurts though… has this happened to anyone?? Looking forward to the shorter bar!
Hey, I got my tongue pierced Saturday morning around 12am. The piercing didn’t hurt but it did swell. I cannot eat solid food, it hurts to use my teeth and chew. I’ve been eating soups and smoothies. I use listerine morning and night, and rinse my mouth out the water after every meal. Ice and cold water has been my best friend! There is still swelling, but they said 3-5 days of swelling. So I will see. But the long barbell is annoying and cannot wait to shorten it! Can I change the barbell after a week (7 days).
My throat is sore as if I had a cold. But i am just waiting for the swelling to go down and the tenderness around the piercing.
Hi all, I got my piercing done on the 9th of August, The person who pierced my tongue told me to come back in a weeks time, just keeping my fingers cross that he shortens it. Because I need to be eating properly. I have experienced a white sore underneath my tongue that came from the barbell, no different in color on top. It is difficult to brush my tongue. @ Samantha i’ve not experience any pain to the throat. I am really looking forward to the shorter bar as well.

I got my tongue pierced 5 days ago. I don’t think it hurt at all and had no pain afterwards. It was just uncomfortable moving my tongue around obviously but after a couple of days the movement was a lot easier. It’s still swollen which is starting to get pretty annoying but at least I can eat.
I’m hope the swelling will go down a lot tomorrow because I would like to change the bar down asap.
I definitely don’t regret it though and love it. Can’t wait to show it off

hey, i got my tongue pierced last night around 7 and its now the 6 the next day my tongue hurts so bad. my whole tongue is swollen i also cant eat anything i can only drink. I really want to know when is the soonest i can take this out?? I want to let it close up.
This completely normal and disappears after the first few days, if you really want to take it out go back to the parlor that did it.
hey everyone. i just got mine done yesterday and it didnt hurt at all i was so nervous but since i wanted this done for 4 years, i just said lets do it. yesterday there was no pain just kinda uncomfortable ya know. then today da swelling came and i couldnt talk straight. other den that im good i rinse my mouth like i should n brush my teeth. took some meds n after that i was able to eat real food. im hoping for more good days to come n cant wait untill i can show it off
Do not brush your tongue with your tootbrush whatever you do! You’re not meant to do it, it’ll only irritate your tongue. I got mine done on Friday (it’s Tuesday now). No pain at all during the piercing, a good bit of swelling and pain in the evening but it was manageable. The next day was the worst, but I just made some thick soup but by evening time I could easily munch away on some cookies. Back onto solids now, doesn’t hurt anymore, isn’t swollen. Becasue of the length of the bar I have a lisp but going to get it changed to a smaller bar tomorrow (the bottom ball is digging into the floor of my mouth and is quite uncomfortable). Didn’t use any painkillers, didn’t use any ice. Kept my mouth nice and moist and used mouth wash after food or smoking (which was totally fine, even the first day). When the mouthwash is gone I’ll switch to sea salt water. If you can handle solids, go for it, just use the mouthwash after. You can drink as much milk as you please, as long as you use mouthwash after. You can pretty much do anything you want or are capable of, as long as you’ve mouthwash near by. I love it, can’t stop playing with it in my mouth but the long bar is making it more difficult, can’t wait for the smaller one.
Had mine done yesterday, the pain wasn’t too bad but afterwards it killed, I couldn’t eat and barley drink. Its abit better today but I just want the swelling to go down, feels really tender too, the man said go back in a few days, would it of heeled then for a smaller bar?

Hey guys i got mine done on nov 2nd and i can say they was no pain at all what freaked me out was wen it came out the other side lol i couldnt eat at all the first day thank god i ate at ihop before i got the piercing. the next day in the morning my toungue was swollen and a whole lot of saliva in my mouth i couldnt talk its like having a lisp but today being the third day the swelling a whole lot better but i only take ibruprofen at night because thats when my toungue is the sorest probably because all of the talking i do
but im starting to be able to eat solids i ate a sanwich and o my gosh it was awesome to eat food again i didnt realize how much i use my toungue until now i cant wait to get the bar shorten woohooo!!

Hello everyone… well i am gonna get my tongue pierced in a couple of weeks, but i am extra worried. This is gonna be my second time i pierce it. But last time i did i was in romania and the women pierced in the wrong spot. Everyone could tell it is placed wrong. Anyways i heard that second time does not hurt as much as the first. Am i gonna have the same swelling problems, cuz that’s the hardest part. Plus can i smoke? cuz i am a kinda heavy smoker, and can i drink while it’s healing? PS: if u have any ideas of hiding it cuz i am doing it this time behind my parents back

i got my tongue pierced on friday the 12 its been 4 days. it didnt really hurt but the top ball is like embedding itself into my tongue. i assume its from the swelling but idk. please help

I got my tongue pierced yesterday (November 25th) and it wasn’t painful at all. The clamp they use to hold your tongue in place is highly uncomfortable but worth it.
I was instructed to rinse with half mouthwash / half water and to rinse after EVERYTHING. I smoke quite regularly and the piercer said that was fine just to rinse.
I don’t have a lisp and the lady instructed me that if you don’t start talking funny from the moment you get pierced, it’s not likely that you will.
I woke up this morning to a little swelling, only on the right side as mine had to be pierced at an angle due to a large vein running down the centre of my tongue. Advil will be your best friend; I take 2 every 4-5 hours and it’s divine.
Don’t be worried about eating – think of it as a great opportunity to detox
I’ve had soup and jello and lots and lots of water.
DEFINITELY avoid beer – way too much yeast and you’ll get thrush.
Everything else you eat just rinse rinse rinse! Most people can’t even tell that I have the piercing, you can’t see it and I’m talking as per usual.
Be careful not to bite your barbell – it’s difficult when you’re trying to eat but you’re better off letting your mouth do the healing with a little help from you rather than aggravating it and prolonging the healing process. Ice is great; as are fruit freezies to control the swelling. Swallowing is difficult but you get used to it.

Hey guys, I got my tongue pierced on the 7th and it kinda hurt that i had tears coming down my eyes! lool but i love it sooo much. the next day it hurt so much couldnt move my toungue properly neither talk properly. I naturally have a lisp but worried that it will get worse as my lisp has worsen, I find it soo hard to talk now plus i have a lot of saliva in my mouth at all time it just seems to build up every minutes!
And yeah my tongue is still swollen but doesn’t hurt nomore, i just cant wait to change into the shorter bar nxt week, hopefully my speaking gets better because i wanna be able to talk back properly!
I would recommend it to everyone that wants to get it don, if you really want it then GET IT!
had mine done yesterday it didnt really hurt jus felt really dizzy after..i jus take ibroprufen and lots of ice and rinse with mouthwash after everythng i eat thres been barely any pain but its rili hard to swallow since my tongues pretty swollen..and my piercer thnks i can go tomorrow to change to a shorter barbell but isnt tht 2 soon???

But anyways, Today is Thursday and my tongue has still not swollen! I went and talked to the piercer yesterday and she said I am very lucky. I was wondering should I change my barbell to a shorter one to prevent damage to my teeth ? I want to change it tomorrow (Friday). *please resond

i just got my tongue pierced yesterday the actual piercing didn’t hurt like i thought it would, it hurts more today then yesterday the worst thing is not being able to eat. I can’t wait til its healed all the way through and i can get the shorter barbel.
I just got mine done 3 days ago, the swelling has gone down a lot, it was at its worst a few hours after i got it pierced though. It looked like it was pierced straight(at an angle of course) but now, idk if its because of the swelling, it looks crooked & its pissing me off D< is that gonna happen?
also,i cant taste much at the tip, & i can taste some things from the piercing back, but its still weird. is that because of my taste buds being in shock?
just got mine done wednesday (january 26th 2011). hurt about as much as i expected, but i have a low pain tolerance so it hurt quite a bit for me. right after getting it and right before my piercer had me gargle with normal mouthwash, just a little bit though, and i drooled ALOT. anyway the day i got it pierced it didnt hurt that much and wasnt too swollen. i’ve been drinking lots of water since then cus the piercing is making my mouth water and its kind of nasty tasting due to the healing. anyway my piercer told me to rinse with just a little bit of mouthwash for a few days after i ate anything other than water or smoked like 4 or 5 cigarettes(i dont smoke so no worries there) and then after that stop using mouthwash and just brush my teeth like normal, but NOT my tongue cus it will irritate the ring. so far no big deal, didnt touch my piercing the first day except to rinse my mouth once very late at night before bed. the next couple days were very painful for me, i couldnt talk very well because my tongue was swollen. my tongue is still very swollen but i could brush my teeth today so im happy my teeth arent totally gross. there is some yellowish film on my tongue but the piercer said it would be normal. i have been eating soup and carnation instant breakfast mainly with ice cream at night when it hurts the most (i think its because i’m awake all day and the muscle just gets tired). i discovered that ice chips are the best! just take one and set it on your tongue and let it melt, try not to suck on it especially if your tongue is sore.oh and when i brushed my teeth i played it safe and found a soft bristle brush in my cabinet, new never used, because i was afraid my normal brush might pull on the barbell. looking forward to the next few days once the swelling goes down i’ll be able to tighten the beads hopefully and eat something other than soup.
i am gettin my tongue pierced on friday and i dont know what i have to do and whta not to do?
I just got mine done today, it’s swollen and I don’t reccommend trying to eat. (I did and I’m paying for it badly now) Just ask any questions you have to your piercer. They can answer all your questions the best. Some debate over mouth wash VS sea salt, just go with what your piercer says. Don’t take any pain killers before going, afterwards is fine though, Some of the above answers are brilliant and very useful.

Question? does the sea salt you use have to be warm? and how miny times a day do you use it?
well i got my tounge done yesterday around 2:00 , didnt hurt at ALLLLL , like an hour after it started swelling and hurting , i cant eat it hurtss toooo muchh . ive been doing thee ice thing now , it helps the swelling go down alot . i tlk w. a lisp a lil but by tmmr or the next day my tounge should be okay . i wanna eat . . . butt after the swelling goes down . ill go bck n get a new barbell . . n i did it behind my parents bck . its not noticeable when youu tlk .

Got mine done 7days ago, didnt hurt… just a little prick and burn… now im basically back to normal and i love it!! i wuld say ibreprphine is my bestfriend and eating soft foods and noodles…. i highly recomend it and its worth every last bit of the little amount of discomfort that comes along with it!!!

I have now pierced my tongue for the third time so I have experienced different effects each time. I actually just got my third piercing for my tongue1 hour ago, so I want to share my after care tips…
First off, everyone heals different but there are individuals that are more privileged and heal faster then us normal mother fuckers, lol…
1. No matter what, stay the fuck away from acidic foods, esp MUSTARD!!!!! ( I had snake bits (two lip rings on each side) done at 16 and thought I was superman, 1 hour later I ate a chz burger with mustard and 3 hours later my lip swelled over the studs. End result, I had to take pliers to dig through my infected lip to unscrew the barbell…. So mustard is a NEGATIVE for at least 3 days.
2. Mouth wash is your best friend after putting anything in your mouth.. Fuck it, wash your mouth as much as possible ( alcohol free).
3. Obviously if the mouth wash has to be be alcohol free then no drinking alcoholic beverages… ( I made this mistake on my first tongue piercing during my bands first show, FUCKING SUCKED!!!!!) So stay away from the good shit for at least 3-4 days… Even if you are not swollen, its better to be safe then sorry.
4. Fucking eat on your 2nd day, just make sure to gently scrub your tongue with the bristles of your tooth brush… It will not kill you
5. If you can get your hands on hydro codons then talking will be fucking easy… I just got me a grip of pain killers, due to my work consist’s of talking so tomorrow I will need them.
6. Buy a new barbell that better fits your mouth, usually you start with a longer barbell that is too long so after the swelling, may chip your tooth ( like I did on the second round)… O, and stick with titanium or metal, you will be eating one day and break the plastic studs.. I know all about this… Later it will be in the toilet
7. After one week…. Go smoke, go drink, eat pussy or suck dick ( what ever your preference)… Go to Spencer’s and buy a good vibrating battery for a preferably medium length barbell and suck a clit like no tomorrow.
Enjoy your new piercing and fuck the drama of being over paranoid just don’t do stupid shit like I did
Hey, i got my tongue pierced on Sunday.. its wednesday now. the right side of my tongue is very sore, i really feel it when i eat or just move it. Is this normal?
