Blood In The Stool

Any one else has got to be paranoid noticing blood in his or her stool. Instead of getting too obfuscated or ignoring the blood in stool, the affected ones should consult a doctor immediately. It is only an efficient health expert who can find out what brings the blood with stool. The blood found in stool can either be shiny red or dark black in color. In some cases the blood coming out with stool cant be noticed with our naked eyes and only after a laboratory test can it be confirmed. The blood seen in stool is identified as hematochezia as well which almost all the people ignore thinking that it must be due to friction of hard stool causing some minor injuries over their anus. But such of theirs guess may prove to be a stultification if the cause of blood in stool is associated with any serious condition. Normally a serious cause of blood in the stool is believed to be a colon cancer which should  be diagnosed and treated on a priority basis.

There are many reasons of blood appearing over the stool. Gastrointestinal tract and cancer are some of common causes of blood in the stool or excreta. Hematochezia, also known as rectal bleeding, is another cause of excessive blood found in the stool. Dark shiny blood clots are common to be seen over the stool.
The blood oozes through colon, rectum or anus and comes out with stool. Though natural color of blood in stool is expected to be shiny red, in some cases it varies depending upon the closeness of bleeding-region to gastrointestinal tract.

If a bleeding region is too close to anus, the blood found over the stool will be shiny bright. Close proximity of bleeding-sites to anus, rectum and sigmoid colon causes fresh shiny blood mixed with stool, while long-distanced bleeding site exits dark blood with the stool. A bleeding in some cases causes a dark black color blood found in the stool with obnoxious smell, known as melana. Foul smell of melana (black blood coming out with stool due to deep inside bleeding) is the result of bacterias, present in colon who destroy the blood thereof into black chemicals(hematin).

It is the main reason that bleeding occurring over the upper gastrointestinal tract(far away from anus) exits the blood with stool as a melana. A bleeding occurring in the ulcer of stomach(duodenum) keeps the blood halted for long before exiting it out, which changes color of blood into black dark, noticed in the stool. Actually the blood remaining over gastrointestinal tract for long is damaged by bacterias thereof thus resulting into dark black color blood with obnoxious smell. In simple words, the bacterias spoil the blood inside the stomach rendering its color into dark black and causing foul smell. Such a dark black color blood seen in the stool becomes a cause of concern for maximum number of individuals.

Though plenty of time allows the bacterias to spoil the blood turning them into mealna, sometimes the excessive bleeding doesn’t halt the blood for long and exits them much faster. Such a faster exit of blood from the small intestine or abdominal ulcer(duodenal) does not allow bacterias to render the blood dark-black and cause a foul smell. Failure of bacterias in turning natural color of blood exits the fresh blood seen as shiny red blood in the stool.

There is another situation when the blood in stool cant be noticed despite relentless bleeding over gastrointestinal tract. It is only because of slow bleeding which cant make the individual see the blood in stool. Only in lab can the blood be confirmed coming out with stool. Such syndromes are reveal iron deficiency or anemia.

Blood in the stool reveals that there is something wrong in a large intestine. It is the  color of the blood which determines the status of blood coming out with stool. However, a common condition of blood found in the stool are known as  diverticulitis and hemorrhoids. Lets a have look at some of most remarkable causes of blood in the stool.

  • Colon cancer.
  • Polyps(Non cancerous growth).
  • Intestinal infections.
  • Inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Colonoscopy.
  • Scarcity of blood in the intestines.
  • Random usage of painkillers.

[Keep is uppermost in your mind that the blood in the stool is not always a cause concern as excessive consumption of iron supplements and fruits like blueberries, beets, blackberries, blue, red, purple and black foods also cause blood in the stool.]
