It was Swiss inventor George De Mestral, belonging to Commugny, Switzerland, who invented Velcro fastener in 1940. There is a story behind the invention of Velcro fastener which reveals how George triggered an idea of fastener and invented it afterwards amazing the entire world. One day on a morning walk along with his dog George had found some cockleburs sticking tenaciously over his pant and furry skin of his dog. Instead of taking the burrs lightly and throwing them off, George exuded an immense curiosity over the sticking property of cockleburs and after returning home, conducted a research on cockleburs to explore what made them stick unscrupulously over his pant and coat of dog. What was revealed, following the test, was the hook-like shape of burrs which ensnared vigorously into the minutest tissues of clothes or furry skin. Such finding stimulated George to invent something extraordinary as a fastener which could prove to be of greatest help in fastening stuffs and goods for safety and security.
Going through entire story nobody can deny that it was only George De Mestral who invented Velcro fastener. The Velcro fastener earned him fame and flourished his fastener-manufacturing business extensively. Today the Velcro manufacturing company is known as Velcro Industries all over the world. With the astonishing Velcro fastener, invented by George, many companies have mushroomed all over the world imitating the Velcro’s fastener.
