First of… something you would consider eating if you were a rat? Haha.

Your pet rat will eat most anything. Many people consider high quality rat feed a must, but between you and me, that’s complet BS. Feed you rat grains, like crackers, chopped veggies, fruit every once in a while, and you can give them a treat of a TINY bit of chocolate if you want every once in a long while, perhaps once a month. You can give them meat too, like cooked chicken, beef and other meats are not as good though. The rat is a voracious omnivorous feeder, and anything you eat it will eat. Don’t give it lots of fatty foods or sweets though, as it will make you rat fat, and cause skin and heart problems. And no, they will not respond to names. They are rats, not dogs.

i think iv got a problem lol i found a little wild baby rat this mornin and was quite happy with the thought of looking after it. It seemed as if this poor thing was dying so i fed it cows milk through a syring not knowing that they were lactose intolerant (that was before i read this article). Is it gonna die because of it or is there something i can do to prevent it from dying if it is? if id known before that i should only feed it soy milk then i would have, i feel so bad now :(
